In response to the increased request for customers protection and quality improvements, an
innovative system for wide-ranging power quality monitoring of Medium Voltage
distribution networks was implemented in Italy. The main aim of the monitoring
system is to provide a baseline of knowledge on the actual quality level in
Italy and to enable the relevant regulatory actions in the interest of
consumers. The monitoring system consists of 600 measurement units of Voltage
Quality parameters (400 in MV-bars and 200 in Secondary Substations) and of a central system for data
collection and storage. Privileged and public users can gain access and examine
the results of the ongoing monitoring campaign through this website.
The 400 MV-bars have been subdivided proportionally to the number of MV networks
(MV-bars) present in each Italian region in order to represent the different
structures and environmental conditions of the Italian MV networks.
The owners of the measurement unit, MU,
have access to the detailed results of measurement (time of occurrence and
characteristics of any single disturbance) and to statistics of disturbances
recorded by their MU over selected intervals of time. The access is made
through a password that allows the non disclosure of proprietary information.
The public may access into the website and ask for processing and reporting of the data collected by the monitoring system aggregating the results in groups of MU.
